Happy new year folks. It’s been a while since our last meetup in Walthamstow and that’s because we have been working behind the scenes to kickstart The Fungi Club for 2023.
This year, we’ll be gathering to build and grow The Fungi Club, which we’ve now officially set up as a social enterprise to empower communities to grow their own food and learn about the crucial role fungi play in the natural environment.
To mark the new year, we’ve launched a fabulous new website, which you can check out here:
Across 2023, we're looking to have The Fungi Club set up mushroom growing spaces right across London: at community gardens and allotments – where vegetables can be sown in conjunction with mushrooms – and schools where kids can learn about this so-called 'hidden kingdom of life'.
To do this, we’ll be hosting club members monthly to discuss the group's projects and further our educational outreach. Along the way, members will also learn about the science and cultivation of fungi. There’s no fee to join the club and no prior knowledge about mycology is needed either. It’s the most exciting time to be joining us as you’ll have a chance to influence the group’s next chapter so do get in touch on our new email: info@TheFungiClub.co.uk
We’ve been working with Forest Gate Community School in Walthamstow, hosting educational talks and installing a mushroom bed for cultivation.
At the end of last year, we also hosted our first fungi foray to get people outdoors and learn about mushrooms in the field. And there’s so much more we can do together!
Discord & Newsletter
Starting this month, we’re launching The Fungi Club’s bookclub where each month we’ll all be reading a choice myco-inspired book and gathering online to discuss it. The first of these literature meetups will be next month - be sure to check out our Discord for more info on that. Myco-love folks,
James, Ben and Lex.
